Government of India proposes New Emission Intensity Targets Under Carbon Credit Trading Scheme 2025
As part of the compliance mechanism laid out under the Carbon Credit Trading Scheme (CCTS), 2023, the government of India has published a draft notification under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, that is in the process of proposing the Greenhouse Gas Emission Intensity Targets Notification, 2025. This draft notification aims to reduce the emission intensity of greenhouse gases across high-emission sectors. The proposal states that emission intensity (GEI) targets that regulated entities must meet over the next compliance periods. The notification promotes India’s nationally determined contributions (NDCs) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging high-emission industries to reduce their carbon emissions per unit of production. It also promotes the use of sustainable and advanced technologies in traditionally high-emission industries.

UK, Kenya & Singapore Form Coalition to Strengthen Carbon Markets Ahead of COP30
With an aim to encourage companies to buy carbon credits, Britain, Kenya and Singapore have joined hands in launching a set of guidelines for buyers. According to carbon market experts, this move indicates the strongest show of policy support yet for such markets. While nations had previously agreed to on a U.N.-backed system at COP29 in Baku, corporate buyers remained reticent. The countries have agreed on a common goal to build a basic set of principles for businesses by COP30 in Brazil in November. This move could help bring in considerable financial aid and climate finance to countries in need.

EU Launches Long-Term Industrial Decarbonization Plan with CISAF
The European Commission has adopted the Clean Industrial Deal Framework (CISAF), a long-term, robust state aid mechanism to accelerate clean energy roll-out, industrial decarbonization, and green technology investments. Replacing the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework, the CISAF will be followed until 2030. It offers businesses and governments a much-needed policy certainty. The key features include fast-tracked approvals for clean energy projects, flexible support for hydrogen and carbon capture, and investment incentives under the Net-Zero Industry Act. Energy-intensive sectors can also access electricity cost relief, provided they reinvest in decarbonization efforts to remain globally competitive. The framework ensures regional equity by providing enhanced support for projects in disadvantaged EU areas, along with tax benefits like accelerated depreciation for clean tech.
