Australia Supercharges Clean Energy Future with 40 GW CIS Expansion

The Australian government is all set to expand its Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS). This will help remove multiple risks from clean energy investments. A new target has been set which entails the delivery of an additional 40 GW in renewable energy and storage capacity by 2030. This has been increased from 32 GW, which was the goal earlier. This expansion also supports Australia’s goal to reach 82% renewable electricity by 2030. Additionally, the expansion also ensures that the CIS’ aim has now been extended to 26 GW of renewable generation capacity and 14 GW of dispatchable capacity, instead of the earlier goals set in 2023 of 23 GW and 9 GW, respectively.

EU Introduces Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for SMEs

A voluntary sustainability reporting standard has been introduced by the European Commission for SMEs. This will help in eliminating data-sharing burdens as well as help gain access to sustainable finance. Developed by EFRAG, this standing can help set guidelines for large companies as well as financial institutions to collate their sustainability data requests to SMEs. “SMEs may also wish to voluntarily report sustainability information to improve their access to sustainable finance and better understand and monitor their own sustainability performance, thereby improving their resilience and competitiveness,” states the commission.
