For years, “compliant” meant one thing: measure your emissions, file a number, move on. I think that definition is now actively dangerous, not outdated, dangerous, because it tells companies they’re safe when they’re not.
Look at the last twelve months. PPWR doesn’t ask what your emissions were; it asks what your packaging is made of, and whether it can even be recycled, before a gram of carbon gets calculated. The 40% recycled-content mandate cares about your raw material sourcing, not your Scope 3 number. CBAM has been pricing embedded emissions since January; the number you filed is now the number you’re charged on. BRSR Core is quietly pulling accountability further down supply chains than most companies have ever mapped.
None of these were built to work together. But they do; and compliance has moved upstream, into decisions made months before any report gets written.
My honest read: most companies still think their emissions-accounting person has this covered. They never did. The real risk isn’t a number you haven’t calculated. It’s a packaging decision someone made last quarter, without knowing it mattered.

PPWR is now in force, and packaging compliance is getting specific
The EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation has entered its application phase, putting new requirements around packaging traceability, enforcement and how existing stock is handled into practice. For businesses selling into Europe, this means packaging teams need to know what materials they are using, where they come from, and whether they can substantiate the related data and claims. The regulation is no longer something to prepare for. Companies now need processes to comply with it.

SBTi’s new Net-Zero Standard puts implementation front and centre
The SBTi has released Corporate Net-Zero Standard V2.0, introducing more context-specific targets and stronger links between target-setting and transition planning. Companies will now need to show how targets will be implemented, including the actions, timelines, dependencies and decarbonisation levers behind them.
The shift is clear: setting a net-zero target is no longer enough, companies are expected to show how they will deliver it.

Fitsol partnered with Ashok Leyland to build BRSR Core readiness across its supplier network. At a two-day workshop in Ennore, suppliers moved from ESG fundamentals to hands-on BRSR Core template filling, error-spotting and certification, building the skills needed for accurate, audit-ready data.
